Overview

The Retail Lending Representative I is responsible for the origination of residential and consumer loan products within assigned areas of the bank, in conformance with established objectives, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains effective working relationships with assigned branches and/or departments within the bank. Provides support, training and expertise on Retail Lending products and services. Creates product knowledge and continued awareness, and provides support for sales activities, in order to increase consumer loan production and residential loan referrals.
  • Originates residential mortgages, home equities and consumer loans. Educates and counsels consumers on available loan options. Facilitates application submission either in person, via the phone or through the web. Closes home equity and consumer loan transactions as needed. Originates the more complex transactions and/or those involving customers with substantial loan and/or deposit relationships.
  • Actively manages pipeline. Assists with the processing and closing of requests as needed to provide the highest level of service. Serves as liaison between applicants, brokers, attorneys and operations staff. Communicates terms, including counter-offers and declines, directly to applicants.
  • Provides ongoing service to customers after loan closing to enhance portfolio retention and secure additional sales. Provides expertise and assists customers with refinances, modifications, line expirations, extensions, subordinations, etc. Identifies borrowers that may be at risk of default, referring to the Collection Department as appropriate, and assisting with the resolution when necessary.
  • Maintains a personal referral network of past customers, realtors, attorneys, builders, accountants, financial professionals, community leaders and other related professionals in order to promote and develop loan sales.
  • Represents the bank through participation in various community, charitable and industry related activities. Actively promotes interest in the bank wherever and whenever possible, cross sells other bank products and services, and refers sales opportunities to other business lines or bank affiliates.
  • Supports bank CRA objectives, with an emphasis on the origination of affordable housing products. Develops and maintains relationships with municipalities and affordable housing organizations and provides support for their outreach and educational activities.
  • Offers recommendations for improvements to Retail Lending products, services and related processes, in order to ensure quality service, maximum volume, loan quality, and compliance with applicable regulations. Assists in the implementation of said recommendations.
  • Provides training to other members of the department as may be requested.
  • Remains current on industry developments. Attends required compliance and lending training. Participates in relevant seminars to enhance sales and general industry knowledge.
  • Provides coverage for other lending representatives and/or the Mortgage Center as assigned and may be needed to meet demand. Performs related and unrelated duties as may be required in order to provide the highest possible level of service to customers and co-workers. Performs all duties within bank policies and state and federal regulations.

Requirements

Education

  • Associates Degree or its equivalent is Required

Work Experience

  • 5+ years of lending or closely related experience is Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with other areas of the organization and employees at all levels in order to further lending related goals.
  • An understanding of the applicable regulatory requirements, secondary market guidelines and the lending industry.
  • Competence with personal computing and lending related technology.
  • Position requires scheduling flexibility and the ability to work extended hours and weekends.
  • **Employment is conditioned on successful registration in the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) prior to originating covered transactions, and the maintenance of said registration in full compliance with the requirements of the SAFE Act and related bank policies.
