The Business Lender provides a dedicated business banking resource to an assigned Community Banking region by supporting customer relationship management activities and the business lending process.  Works closely with branch managers, staff and business development specialist to successfully build and maintain the portfolio for the region.  Performs any function within scope of authority and expertise to provide the highest level of service and responsiveness to customers and co-workers.


  • Collaborates with community banking regional and branch managers and business development staff in devising and implementing market action plans for the assigned market, and takes overall responsibility for the process.  Maintains and documents an appropriate schedule of contact for each borrower.
  • Provides customer relationship management support and delivers business banking products and services for assigned region.  Acts as relationship manager for larger and more complex credit relationships.  Has general overall responsibility for all loans in the region’s portfolio.
  • Works with customers, prospects and community banking staff in supporting the loan approval, closing and follow-up process.  Will qualify applications, determine appropriateness of product offerings and ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation.  Works with the Community Business Banking Processing and Underwriting Department to insure high quality credit analysis and risk assessments are developed.
  • Ensures full compliance with the Bank’s Information Security Policies and Procedures.
  • Provides coaching and mentoring to community banking staff.  Acts as region’s subject matter expert for business banking products.
  • Remains alert at all times to competitor product trends, keeping management apprised of changes and opportunities. 
  • Represents and creates maximum visibility for the Bank through participation in various industry and community activities and networking events.  Actively promotes the Bank’s interests in the marketplace.
  • Performs related and unrelated duties as may be required.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience.  Four to seven years of business banking experience is required, including delivering small business products within a retail environment. 
  • Formal credit training or equivalent experience required.  Must have some experience with SBA products, consumer and business credit and deposit products and be able to analyze financial statements. 
  • Must have excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to communicate with business owners to identify needs and appropriate product offerings.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and to interact well with retail banking staff is required.
  • Must possess at least intermediate technology skills, including knowledge of word processing, database and spreadsheet
